Salvaging for vinyl.
I went to the regional chain to pick up paper and plastic sleeves for the vinyl i’ve already purchased and will be getting in the future. On the drive home I decided to visit a little shop nearby. I can’t even describe it as a used record store, or even a used book store. This shop is a relic from the past. It’s run by a wonderful older Spanish woman. She has 2 cats that have the run of the store. The place consists of seemingly endless racks of barely organized used records and an equal amount of used book. The woman and I chatted for a bit and she told me to ignore all the prices on the vinyl. Her lease is up at the end of September so she needs to start unloading. I was instructed to pull out some stuff I would be interested in and she would come up with a reasonable price.
Here’s what I got for the reasonable price of 20 bucks:
The Police - Synchronicity
George Carlin - A Place for my Stuff
Billy Crystal - Marvelous
Santana - Abraxas
The Secret Policeman’s Other Ball (1981 Amnesty International Benefit featuring Sting, Jeff Beck & Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, & Donovan)
Ella Fitzgerald - Sings the Cole Porter Songbook
Duke Ellington - Greatest Hits (1968)
Not bad for 20 bucks. She had some great stuff there, some of it was way pricey, but the above list is a bargain, so I’ll definitely be returning before she is gone!
